About Saint Expedite

Saint Expedite is a popular folk saint, known as the Patron Saint of Urgent Causes, particularly beloved for overcoming procrastination and addictions. He's venerated from Reunion Island to Brazil, from New Orleans through Latin America, in Mexico, across the United States, and throughout Europe.

His feast day is on April 19.

Saint Expedite is recognized as the fastest saint - fastest to hear prayers, perform miracles, and answer petitions of those who call him. All he asks in return is that we spread his name and tell others to call on him when they need him.

According to his biography, he was a commander of a Roman Legion. When entering battle in enemy territory without food or water, his legion did the only thing they could think of: raise their arms to heaven the way the Christians did, asking the Christian God for a miracle.

Seeing the thousands of legionnaires making the same strange gesture, the barbarian enemy was utterly taken back and halted their advance, allowing Expedite and his forces to seize the advantage and win the battle, capturing the much needed supplies.

In the aftermath of their deliverance, many of the legion's men converted to Christianity, but the young Expedite procrastinated. Finally, he resolved to be baptized and accept Christianity.

At that moment, the Devil appeared to him in the form of a crow, calling, "Cras! Cras!" ("Tomorrow!" in Latin), to encourage Expedite's procrastinating to continue. But the youth crushed the crow underfoot, shouting "Hodie! Hodie! Hodie!" ("Today!" ), converting that day.

Shortly thereafter, Expedite was beheaded by the order of the emperor, making him an early Christian martyr.

His offerings include coffee, cinnamon, and sweets, roses, crow feathers, shiny pennies, and bottles of beer. In the Southern United States, he is said to be especially fond of instant coffee and frozen pound cake due to their expeditious nature

How to Use these Items

First, write down your petition as a letter to Saint Expedite, clearly stating exactly the miracle you request.  Place it before a statue, icon or picture of Saint Expedite on a place that can serve as his altar.  Add a glass of water and a white, red or yellow candle (or all 3!).

Oil: Place one dot of oil in each corner of your petition and one in the center. Next, anoint your candle(s), then your Saint Expedite statue/icon/image, your altar, and yourself.

Incense: Light an incense charcoal and allow to burn until it develops a layer of white/gray ash, then sprinkle a pinch of incense. As the smoke rises and fills your ritual space, visualize it carrying your prayers and requests directly to Saint Expedite.

Pray with all devotion for Saint Expedite to hear you and to take up your cause. Ask him for the miracle you desperately need, and offer to reward him when he performs it.

Keep his offering handy. Don't give it to him before your petition is answered. As soon as you are sure of the result, place the offering(s) on his altar. Once the offerings have been there three days, take them and dump them at the edge of the wilderness or forest, or among a cluster of trees.
