The Archangel Michael is the foremost spiritual protector and champion of goodness, abundance and health across dozens of faiths and spiritual systems. September 29th is the day he's venerated in the Catholic church - and in many Catholic-inspired syncretized traditions. 

He's also in charge of souls immediately after death - Islamic traditions depict Michael's body covered as with hair by tongues of flame, which plead continually for mercy on behalf of soul he carries. In this capacity, he's called upon to elevate the souls of the departed, and by theurgic necromancers seeking a spirit to put to work.

In the esoteric tradition, he's said to have been the magical tutor of King Solomon and the presence that revealed itself in the burning bush to Moses.  Within the practice of magic, from diasporic folk magic to highly formalized ritual magic, Archangel Michael is called upon for protection from witchcraft, black magic, evil spirits, and sorcery. He is especially trusted with performing "reversals", where harmful spells and intenetions are returned to whoever sent them.
